Today the group had a few different experiences that helped broaden their understanding both of the communities where we’re serving and of Young Life Guatemala. We started our day with a trip to the cemetery from where we could see the city dump. All week they’ve been hearing stories from YL friends about what it means to depend on the dump for survival, and today they were able to see what it means. While it’s a difficult experience, it really does help contextualize the week.
From there we worked! The walls will all be up by tomorrow afternoon, and the floor poured. No roof as the family will be putting a second floor of wood on top.
After a long work day, we ate at Pollo Campero and returned to El Recuerdo for Young Life club. It was fun to see my family dancing, singing, and laughing with kids. Scott says he danced more tonight than at his wedding (sorry, Cheri).
Now we all need a lot of rest before a big last day of work!
