Last night a group of 27 arrived from Tulsa, OK – 22 high school kids who are choosing to spend their spring break in Guatemala, and 5 of their fearless leaders. Our first day on the job went incredibly smoothly – the kids worked hard, had fun with new friends in the neighborhood, asked good questions, and saw a bit of what life is like in Zone 3.
We have one group putting the finishing touches on the house that was built with our last team, 2 groups are pouring concrete floors in a community with very few of those, and the final has the great privelage of working on my coworker Estela’s house. Estela has been with Vida Joven for about 4 years now and gives a lot. It’s fun to give a bit back to her. The wood in her house was rotting, so a carpenter came in to frame a new second floor – our team is putting in the concrete slab.
We’re excited for another great week of hard work, new friendships, and a few good stories too!
