Although our work in the communities ended on Friday, the group had two full days to explore Guatemala, process their experiences, and say “goodbye” to new friends. On Saturday morning, we headed to Pacaya, an active volcano about an hour south of Guatemala City. We climbed the volcano quickly, roasted marshmallows on top, and got back to the bus right as a storm rolled in.
We had our final dinner, complete with a rocking Spanglish rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Jack, whose birthday is today. After a pretty sleepless night (between hanging out, talking, and the incredibly loud music coming from the restaurant next to the hotel, we didn’t get much sleep), the group explored Antigua. They jumped on the bust and headed to the airport, where I assure you that 25 people entered the Guatemala airport with passports in hand. Here’s to safe travels! Thanks for sharing your sons/daughters/husbands/wives with us for a week!
